“Longing for America”
American culture flowed into postwar Japan.
The television became popular throughout Japan after the Tokyo Olympics,
America on the TV became a source of adoration for young people.
They were fascinated by innovative American dramas such as,
Little House on the Prairie, The Untouchables, Combat!, Rawhide, Star Trek, Bewitched, and so on.
Hollywood movies also enthralled the Japanese.
I miss the two or three feature film roadshow theatrical releases,
The movie star emitted a radiance from another dimension.
John Wayne, Charlton Heston,
Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and others.
The Japanese were mesmerized by the reflection of them on the screen.
The influx of music was also tremendous.
Young people, unsatisfied with traditional Japanese music,
Became enthralled with genres such as country, jazz, folk, rock, and R&B.
This brought about a major change in fashion as well.
Jeans, T-shirts, and hippie fashion were introduced,
And preconceived notions of fashion were overturned.
There was also a major change in eating habits.
Bread and milk were introduced into school lunches.
The Japanese, whose staple food was rice, began to eat wheat products.
Then, fast food appeared on the scene.
Coke and hamburgers immediately became popular.
America was a dream come true for the Japanese in the Showa era.
Now, America is in the midst of an illness.
The United States, with a history of only about 250 years,
Reminds one of the last days of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Old Testament,
Cities destroyed by fire by Yahweh, the Creator God.
Right now America cannot determine what is righteous and what is evil.
It is as if the paganism of the Old Testament has returned.
George Washington was the founding father.
Thomas Jefferson was the drafter of the Declaration of Independence.
Abraham Lincoln was the emancipator.
Those great men led America.
We need strong and honorable leaders now more than ever.
Leaders who can fight evil with words of light as weapons.
I believe the America of years past will be restored.

戦後の日本に流れ込んだアメリカの文化
東京オリンピックを機に全国に普及したテレビ
映像で観るアメリカは若者の憧れとなった
「大草原の小さな家」「アンタッチャブル」「コンバット」
「ローハイド」「宇宙大作戦」「奥様は魔女」
アメリカの斬新なドラマに夢中になった
ハリウッド映画も日本人を夢中にした
2本立、3本立のロードショーの上映が懐かしい
銀幕スターは別次元の輝きを放っていた
「ジョン・ウエイン」「チャールトン・ヘストン」
「マリリン・モンロー」「オードリー・ヘップバーン」
スクリーンに映るその姿に日本人は陶酔した
音楽の流入も凄まじかった
「カントリー」「ジャズ」「フォーク」「ロック」「R&B」
演歌や歌謡曲に物足りなかった若者は熱狂した
それはファッションにも大きな変化をもたらす
「ジーンズ」「Tシャツ」「ヒッピーファッション」
ファッションの既成概念は崩壊した
食生活にも大きな変化が起こった
学校の給食にパンと牛乳が導入された
米が主食だった日本人が小麦を食べ始めたのだ
やがてファストフードのが登場する
「コーラ」と「ハンバーガー」が一気に普及した
昭和の日本人にとってアメリカは夢のような国だった
そのアメリカが今や病んでいる
250年程の歴史しかないアメリカ合衆国は
旧約聖書のソドムとゴモラの末期を想像させる
創造神ヤハウェに火によって滅ぼされた都市のことだ
今や何が正義で何が悪なのかを判断できないアメリカ
まるで旧約聖書の邪教が復活したかのようだ
建国の父ジョージ・ワシントン
独立宣言の起草者トーマス・ジェファーソン
奴隷解放のエイブラハム・リンカーン
偉大な指導者がアメリカを導いてきた
今ほど強く心正しき指導者が必要な時代はない
光の言葉を武器に邪悪な存在と戦える指導者
憧れのアメリカは必ず復活すると信じる
