  “Japan’s Power and Influence”

  From the 17th century to the middle of the 20th,
  The great powers of Europe—most notably, the British Empire—
  Shaped the world through colonial rule.

  The iron fist of white supremacy proliferated
  In the New World, Africa, and virtually all of Asia.
  Europe prospered through the pillage and exploitation
  Of the countries they ruled.

  It was Japan’s closed-door era, a tranquil period of national isolation.
  The era ended with the Meiji Restoration in the latter half of the 19th century.
  Japan, too, grew a sense of nationality:
  The homeland must be protected.

  Japan, victorious in wars with China and Russia,
  Stunned the world with a policy of strength through military power,
  No doubt raising alarms among Western powers.

  In 1919 at a meeting of the League of Nations,
  Japan put forth a proposal for racial equality among League nations.
  Although the proposal was rejected by the Western powers,
  It was an historical moment for humankind.

  By 1941, the Pacific War was just waiting to happen.
  It was the liberation of Asian nations.
  Japan gave hope and courage to the colonized peoples.
  Unfortunately, Japan lost that war.
  However, an important ideal was realized.

  Today, the world again faces a crisis.
  The sacred mission that is Japan’s looms large.
  Now more than ever, the world needs Japan’s power and influence.

  「日本の威光」

  17世紀から20世紀半ばまでの世界は
  大英帝国を筆頭にヨーロッパ列強による
  植民地支配によって成立していた

  白人至上主義は新大陸からアフリカ、全アジアを
  ほぼ手中にし圧政を極めていた
  ヨーロッパの繁栄は、それらの国からの
  略奪と搾取により成り立っていたのだ

  当時、わが国は天下太平の鎖国時代
  しかし、19世紀後半ついに明治維新が起こる
  日本にも国家意識が芽生えたのだ
  自分の国を守らなければならないのだ

  その後、日清・日露戦争に勝利し
  世界を驚愕させた日本の富国強兵政策は
  欧米に強い警戒感を抱かせたに違いない

  そして、1919年国際連盟という舞台で
  「人種差別撤廃提案」が日本より提示された
  西洋列強に提案は却下されたが
  人類にとって歴史的瞬間であった

  大東亜戦争は起こるべくして起こった
  それはアジア諸国の解放である
  日本は植民地に勇気と希望を与えたのだ
  残念ながら日本は戦争に敗北した
  しかし、大いなる理想は実現したのだ

  今また、世界は危機を迎えている
  日本という国が果たす聖なる使命は大きい
  今こそ日本の威光を世界が必要としている
