• 424 Homework of the Soul

  

  “Homework of the Soul”

  We had an observation diary as homework for summer vacation
  A typical example was observing morning glories
  We thought it was troublesome at first
  We planted the seeds and watered them every morning out of obligation
  And then one day the seeds sprouted

  Our sense of duty changed slightly
  We found watering them every morning became enjoyable
  The morning glories continued to grow day by day
  They curled their vines and grew bigger
  Then one day we found a small bud
  Our expectation became reality, and we could not help but dance with joy

  The observation diary was homework and a duty
  But continuing that duty led to unexpected joy
  Observation nurtured knowledge and love for the plants

  Life is somewhat similar to this
  Life itself is homework for us
  Our daily living is a series of exercises
  And without noticing, we are writing the answers

  There is no ordinary or extraordinary in life
  We are all special beings
  To make our lives valuable
  We must live each day with careful awareness
  Our thoughts and actions, and the words of others
  Contain clues that guide us rightly
  We should observe our own lives closely

  To make the flower of life bloom
  We should discover the homework of the soul given to us
  And live with a sincere and humble heart 
  

  「魂の宿題」

  夏休みの宿題に観察日記があった
  代表的なものが朝顔の観察
  最初は面倒くさいなと思いながら
  タネを蒔いて義務的に毎朝水をやる
  そしてある日タネが発芽する

  義務感が少し変化する
  毎朝の水やりが楽しみになった
  朝顔は日に日に成長し続ける
  くるくるとツルを巻き大きくなる
  そんなある日小さなツボミを見つけた
  期待が現実となり思わず小躍りした

  観察日記は宿題であり義務だったが
  義務の継続が予想外の喜びにつながり
  観察が植物への知識と愛情を育んだ

  人生もこれに少し似ている
  人生そのものが宿題だからだ
  日々の暮らしが問題集の連続で
  知らず知らずの内に答えを書いている

  人生に平凡も非凡もない
  人は誰もが特別な存在なのだ
  自分の人生を価値あるものにするには
  注意深く意識して毎日を生きることだ
  自分の考えや行動そして他者の言葉
  そこには自分を正しく導く鍵がある
  よくよく自分の生活を観察することだ

  人生の花を咲かせるには
  自分自身に与えられた魂の宿題を発見し
  素直で謙虚な心で生きることだ
