“Jesus”
Lord Jesus Christ,
You risked your life to teach humankind
What love is.
The seed you sowed sprouted a blossom
That burst forth to give us Christianity.
It is a faith built on the simple precept
Of obeying and promulgating the Lord’s teachings.
Yet, once people become involved,
The teachings have been used by those in power,
Under the banner of righteousness,
To plunder nations and wage wars.
The Lord’s sadness must be immeasurable,
That history is riddled with bloody massacres
Committed by those opposed to his teachings
Yet committed in the name of Christ.
Let us listen anew to the Lord’s teachings, without pretense or protest.
Jesus told of the arrival of the Kingdom of God.
It is a utopia based on love,
Realized through loving God and one’s neighbors.
“Love your enemies” (from Matthew 5:44)
Teaches how to face those we oppose,
Avoiding a fight by choosing the radical idea of love.
To those who call themselves Christian,
I hope you take that teaching to heart.

主イエス・キリストよ
あなたは人類に「愛とは何か」を
自らの命を賭して教えてくださいました
そして、あなたの蒔かれた種は芽を吹き
キリスト教という果実になりました
主の教えを守り、広めるという
純粋な想いにより創られたもの
しかし、ひとたび人間が関わることにより
その教えは為政者や権力者に利用され
正義の名の下に略奪や戦争が行われました
主の悲しみはいかばりだろうか
教えに反する人々がキリストの名を語り
殺戮を繰り返した血塗られた歴史
今一度、主の教えを素直に聞こう
主イエスは神の国の到来を告げました
それは愛によるユートピアのことであり
神への愛、隣人愛により実現するのです
「汝の敵を愛せよ」とは
敵対する者への姿勢であり
戦いを避ける革命的な愛の教えです
キリスト教徒を名乗る者達よ
その胸に聞いて欲しい
