“Lotus in the Mud”
Look!
A large lotus flower
With its root in the muddy bog
A lotus won’t bloom large
If the water is clear
The deeper the water
The wider its petals will open
Don’t use your surroundings as an excuse
The harder the circumstances,
The more magnificently the flower
Of enlightenment will bloom
Buddha, enshrined on the lotus pedestal
Admonishes us so
「泥中の蓮」
見なさい
あの大輪の花を咲かせた蓮を
蓮の根元は泥沼の中なのです
蓮は綺麗な水の中では
大輪の花を咲かせません
泥が深ければ深いほどに
大輪の花が咲くのです
今の自分がいかなる環境の中にあっても
それを言い訳に使ってはなりません
悟りという大輪の花は
その環境が大変であればある程に
見事な花を咲かせるものなのです
お釈迦様は蓮華座に鎮座され
そう、私たちを諭されています
