“Religion and Mysticism”

Religion sets forth a way of living in this world
That seeks to elevate one’s soul,
While also teaching how to communicate
With souls who have passed to the next world.
But with the commercialization of today’s religions,
Their might of long ago has disappeared.

The truly religious person is also a mystic,
Spiritually awakened through the discipline of training,
Receptive to revelations from great spirits.
But if he lets down his guard,
An evil spirit can lay waste to his life.

In the next world are heaven and hell.
Who ascends to heaven and who descends to hell—
What lies in our hearts determines our fate.
It is a determination we need to understand clearly.

The spiritual course must not be taken merely for pleasure.
To those of this world
A path of spiritual training is essential.
Never veering off for the ease of self-realization,
Never trifling with frivolous spiritualism.
