“Lonely Times”
Picasso had his “Blue Period,”
When he painted dark, desolate paintings
Entirely in shades of blue.
Life at the edge, where light from the rest of humanity does not reach—
Humankind far removed from happiness was Picasso’s motif.
The period started after the suicide of a close friend.
His heart in the blackest depths of despair,
Picasso continued the Blue Period for three years.
Later, after meeting the woman whom he considered his soul mate,
Picasso entered his “Rose Period.”
Misfortune visits each of us.
To live is to have times of adversity and pain.
We enrich and nourish the soul for those very times,
For, in the midst of that loneliness and despair,
Before us stands the doorway to that for which we yearn.
