“Many and Varied Values”
As each nation has its own history and traditions,
Each person has their own way of thinking and set of values.
The bigger a nation, the greater the need for tolerance and understanding.
When a powerful nation forces its values elsewhere,
It triggers trouble in the world.
Your own country isn’t always right.
The other guy’s country isn’t always wrong.
Only with a keen awareness of those truths can the world’s leaders
Guide its nations to the goal of coexistence and prosperity.
In a world of many and varied values,
Mutual understanding, acceptance, and cooperation
Are the heart and soul of peace and well-being.
It looks simple, don’t you think?
It truly is a simple concept.
But if we can’t make it happen,
We must conclude that our spiritual civilization on this earth
Is still just a baby—far, far from fully grown.

それぞれの国に歴史や伝統があり
多様な考え方や価値観がある
故に大国ほど理解と寛容が必要だ
大国の価値観を押し付けるのは
世界に不穏な火種をつくりだす
己の国が常に正しいとは限らない
彼の国が間違っているとも限らない
国のリーダーの、その強い自覚こそが
世界を共存と繁栄へと導く
世界には多様な価値観があって
理解し、認め合い、協力し合う
そこにこそ人類の平和と繁栄はある
簡単なことではないか
実に簡単なことなのだ
それが出来ないのなら
地球人類の精神文明は
まだまだ幼いのだ
