“Bushido”
Bushido is the code of the samurai
It evolved naturally over many years
Samurai were skillful warriors but
They detested wanton violence
Their mentality was influenced by
Shinto, Buddhist, and Confucian ideals
Bushido espouses seven virtues:
Righteousness (gi):
The ideal of justice, the way of humanity
Courage (yū):
“To know what is right and just but fail to act is to lack courage.”
Compassion (jin):
“Even a hunter can’t shoot a cornered bird that flies to him for refuge.”
Courtesy (rei):
Respect and consider others; weep together and rejoice together
Honesty (sei):
Never break an oath or fail to fulfill a promise
Honor (meiyo):
Dishonor is worse than death
Loyalty (chūgi):
Devotion to ideals greater than oneself
Bushido is not a religious doctrine
It has been passed down for generations
And has taken root in the spirituality of Japan—
In the world of commerce, Japanese find success by embracing shikonshōsai:
“The soul of a samurai, the savvy of a seller”
We must not treat bushido as just a piece of history
It is our duty to carry it proudly into the future
「武士道」
武士道とは武士の掟である
それは長い歳月が醸成した自発的なものだ
武士たちは戦いの専門家であるが
単なる血腥い存在である事を嫌ったのだ
その精神性は神道、仏教、儒教の影響を受けた
武士の徳目として7つの徳が挙げられる
「義」「勇」「仁」「礼」「誠」「名誉」「忠義」
「義」とは正義の道理、人の道である
「勇」とは義を見てせざるは勇無きなり
「仁」窮鳥懐に入ずれば、猟師もこれを撃たず
「礼」泣く人と共に泣き、喜ぶ人と共に喜ぶ
「誠」武士に二言はない、言った事を成す
「名誉」命以上に大切な価値
「忠義」個人より重要な価値
武士道精神は宗教的教義ではない
親が子へ伝え培われたきたものだ
そして商人にさえ士魂商才として影響を与え
日本人の精神性として定着した
この高い精神性を過去のものとしてはならない
世界に誇れる日本の精神を未来へと伝える
私たちに与えられた義務である
